Forth Expands EV Carsharing in the Pacific Northwest and Beyond

November 15, 2022

By: Connor Herman

Forth is expanding the Affordable Mobility Platform (AMP) program, providing electric vehicle carsharing and charging at
multi-unit dwellings in underserved communities in over 12 cities across eight states by the summer of 2023.

AMP builds on the GoForth EV carsharing service launched in the Pacific Northwest this year serving locations along the West Coast Electric Highway.

In addition to the vehicles, the AMP program provides designated EV charging stations at each GoForth parking location. A dual port system provides one port for the carshare vehicle and another for public use.

AMP is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and includes over 40 partners. The program will bring 70 shared EVs and    dual-port EV chargers to affordable housing developments in 12 cities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Missouri, Michigan, and North Carolina.

EVs are often less accessible to low-to-moderate income and rural populations. With a focus on establishing carsharing services at affordable housing developments and rural communities, AMP and GoForth provide an affordable way for individuals to test drive EVs  for free and rent them for personal use. GoForth members can learn about EV technology and enjoy the benefits of driving an EV (low fuel costs, zero tailpipe emissions, and a smooth, comfortable, convenient driving experience) without having to purchase one.

The GoForth CarShare launched in spring of 2022, serving eight locations in Clatskanie, The Dalles, Philomath, Veneta, Eugene, Bend and La Pine, Oregon. Individuals interested in renting an electric car can sign up to be a GoForth CarShare member by downloading the Miocar Networks app on their smartphone, or visiting miocar.org.  Members must be 21 or older with a valid US driver’s license, relatively clean driving record, and valid credit, debit, or bank card.

The first 10 GoForth CarShare locations are funded by a grant from the American Public Power Association. Forth has received additional funding from the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to bring GoForth CarShare to five new locations: Longview, Bingen and White Salmon, WA, Dufur, OR and Jackson, WY. Forth coordinates with affordable housing developments, utilities, and technology partners - such as Mobility Development and Miocar to launch and manage each carsharing location.
