Our second Seattle monthly networking event started out with a simple question: Would you rather lose your phone or your wallet?  Guess what everyone chose? Technology is changing how we live and what’s most important to us. Electric Vehicles are on that path.

Our speaker, Alex Keros, Manager of Vehicle & Advanced Technology Policy at General Motors and their car-sharing app “Maven” said we are at the “starting line of a new wave.”  You can view the presentation below, and here are some other highlights:

• GM recently announced an all-electric path to zero emissions.  Mary Bara, GM’s Chairman and CEO, announced its vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. 

• In the next 18 months, GM will introduce two new all-electric vehicles based on learnings from the Chevy Bolt EV.  They will be the first of at least 20 new all-electric vehicles that will launch by 2023.
• Maven is an opportunity to introduce the mainstream public to EVs.  Most users do not have charging facilities, so building the infrastructure is critical.
• Maven, unlike other car-sharing apps will have 3 components: 
  • Maven City (the most familiar use currently),
  • Maven Home (cars dedicated to a certain community for their use only), and
  • Maven Gig (for ride-sharing, delivery services, etc.

Alex does not believe there will be a reduction in jobs with the move to electric vehicles.
